Meeting

G and I chose the wrong day to view Namiko's exhibition at the Esplanade - National Day Parade preview day. Some roads near the Marina Bay area were closed. The Esplanade car park was full, and so was the bridge linking Fullerton and Esplanade. We had to walk the long way past the Victoria Concert Hall to get to the Explanade.

But the long walk was worth it, if only to learn what's her understanding of "Meeting". I particularly like the painting Gaze. You see the back of a lady gazing at a rose in her hand. And you can see why she's gazing so intently. I found myself as enthralled by the rose.

It's a pity the painting that won her the UOB Painting of the Year 2006 wasn't exhibited. Seeing it in the papers just wouldn't be the same as seeing it up close. But there's her next exhibition to look forward to.

Namiko has another exhibition from 2 Aug 07:
