Finding Nemo

She woke up reluctantly, wondering the reason for her fatigue. She looked at the clock, it's ten to ten. Turning her glance sideways, she looked at the fish tank. It looked peaceful. The shrimp was lying on the rock - on its back. The clownfish was nowhere to be seen. She moved to peer at the back of the tank, where the clownfish liked to sleep swimming. Not there. Her heart started pounding. She jumped up, turned on all the lights in the room, and flipped open the fish tank cover. The clownfish was nowhere in the water. Neither could she see it in any of the three filter compartments where the fish had jumped in on occasion, and where it's previous companion had expired.

The first filtering compartment was entirely covered by a black sponge. If the fish were there, she would have seen it. She started to take out the black filter balls from the third compartment. Not there. She shifted the bag of rocks below to see if it was trapped at the sides. Nope. Out came the small bag of carbon from the top of the second compartment. Still no fish in sight. She recoiled at the thought of feeling around the sides of the cloth bag below, and possibly touching the dead fish. She quickly got dressed and called the boyfriend's mom for help.

The boyfriend's mom came, poked around, took out the cloth bag, and even got a torchlight to shine into all three compartments. After five minutes, she proclaimed "Forget it. The fish is probably gone", and left with the dead shrimp. She could only stare dismally at the empty tank.

5.30pm. She texted the boyfriend to ask him about the plan for the night. She wrote: "Somehow, I'm hoping that Nemo is still alive." The boyfriend agreed to return home to look for the fish. Arriving home, he set to work. He also took out the black filter balls from the third compartment and prodded around the bag of rocks below. He also took out the black filter bags from the second compartment and prodded around the cloth bag below. Turning off the filter, and armed with the torch, he took out the cloth bag in the second compartment to see if the fish had slipped below when his mom was prodding around in the morning. Not there. They decided to try looking below the rock where the shrimp used to hide, though it seemed mostly unlikely. He lifted up the rock and all they saw were two big worms. They wondered if the fish had died and the worms had eaten it overnight, without leaving even a bone. That made the worms seem like pirahnas. They sat contemplating where the fish could had gone.

The boyfriend wanted to give up. She pleaded for him to continue looking, to take out the bag of rocks in the third compartment, not accepting that the fish could disappear. He agreed, although he said it was quite impossible that the fish could have squeezed below the bag of rocks, or that the fish could still be alive. Turning off the filter for the second time, he took out the bag of rocks with much difficulty. Shining the torch into the black depths of the water, they saw movement. She shrieked, "It's alive! It's alive!" Nemo was darting around at the bottom of the compartment. It was 8 pm by then. Almost an hour since they began their search, and ten hours since Nemo was discovered missing.

Ya. It's at least the 5th time we saved it. It's one lucky fellow.

Hahaha....somehow i didn't read this the last 2 times i visited because i thought it was one of those thought-provoking post again. No, not that i don't like being provoked thoughtfully, i just didn't have the time given the things i had to deal with the last 2 days. I was just looking for pictures that tell a story. But after reading this, your description more graphic than pictures.

So happy to hear Nemo is alive and your persistance in finding it

Suzie - Thank you. :) But I will try to put more pix in the blog. I agree it's hard to deal with a lot of text all the time.

I wasn't expecting Nemo to be alive. Just wanted to know what happened to it, but I'm glad we found it. :)
