Monday Blues
Tired. Practised yoga thrice last week. On Thu, Fri and Sun. Not very good planning. I know. Plus, I was trying to keep a flu virus at bay. First my nephew had it, then my mom, then B, and then my niece. Which means, all the people that I spend the most time with. I seem to be sucumbing to it now. Slept the better part of Sat and Sunday away. and now I'm sleepless. Every time I feel like I'm drifting into dreamland, into that darkness about which you know nothing, something pulls me back, forbidding me sleep. It's tiresome, and tiring. So here I am.
Sad to say, the premiere episode of The Dance Floor did nothing to mitigate the onset of the blues. As expected, the show was not exciting. They only showed snippets here and there from the audition, and not the full performance of any group, so it felt like watching the show narrated by someone with ADHD. Most of the groups shown didn't looked like they enjoyed their own dancing either.
Anyway, looks like next week is the start of the elimination round for the shortlisted contestants. Which means the episode featuring Gaia should be on 11 Feb. Will update again.

Shimmy to the Top!

Finally, we finished it. It took the three of us the the most part of Saturday, and a bit more time on Sunday to work on it. I know, it does not look like it takes so much time to make such a simple placard, but the sketching of the words, and matching the work of three persons took a lot of time. The proudest moment came when we decided to substitute the belly dancer silhouette for the 'i'.
Now I hope that Angel and Belinda would be able to see this from The Dance Floor and be encouraged to shimmy their way to the top.

Bring Out Your Hip Scarf
I finally saw Angelina on TV! She appeared for all of 2 seconds in an ad for The Dance Floor. Together with Belinda, they are competing in the Singaporean version of So You Think You Can Dance.
Having been an avid follower of the latter, I'm really looking forward to our own version of the show. It's amazing to watch how well the dancers execute the new dances they learn each week, oftentimes, forms that differ a lot from what they trained in. Although there is some measure of luck, in terms of the choreography they were given and the dance forms they picked, many excelled in whatever was given to them, making them truly versatile dancers.
Of course, the judges' comments also served to liven up the show. While I am not expecting Mary Murphy's humour (and giggles), I do hope our judges here show the same tact and diplomacy. More importantly, I hope the judges will give fair comments: admitting that they don't know a dance form if they really don't (like Nigel Lythgoe); being honest and constructive, even when it means giving negative comments when they have to; and most importantly, letting contestants go with positive comments. It would be too nasty for a dancer's career if they leave the show on a less than positive note.
And of course, it's exciting that a belly dance group is competing. So I'm hoping that they do really well and show the rest of Singapore what belly dance is about. I'm going to be cheering for Angel's and Bel's group, Gaia, with my hip scarf. And I need to start learning how to do the zaghret
. Cheer with me.
*The Dance Floor starts airing on 21st Jan, 8 pm on Channel 5.
