add one more star to the night...

I was at .woodwould.. the other day when I was moved to pick up the book "If you are afraid of the dark, add one more star to the night" by Cooper Edens. I was intrigued the optimistic title. As I flipped through the beautiful illustrations, I was smitten. The illustrations were beautiful and it was filled with little gems of sayings like the title. It is a children's book for both the young and old, in the vein of The Little Prince and The Giving Tree. I enjoyed both tremendously; they are simple but filled with worldly truths.

Someday, when I have my own home, I want to start a collection of children books like these: Shel Silverstein, Cooper Edens. And perhaps Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree and The Adventures of the Wishing Chair. I almost regret giving them away now.

Under the Banyan Tree

It rained the entire day on Friday. Thank goodness it stopped in the evening. We were wondering whether we would miss the screening of Breakfast at Tiffany's, organized by the National Museum of Singapore as part of its Under the Banyan Tree: Open Air Cinema screenings.

When we arrived at 7.45pm, a sizable crowd had gathered. The ground was damp, but nobody minded and happily spread out their mats and groundsheets. Some even brought pillows. We were not prepared and contended with sitting along the pavement.

We were full of anticipation when the movie started. Although the sound was less than pristine at times, it was surprising the sound of the traffic didn't intrude at all. Just two hours of 60s Hollywood magic.

The crowd applauded at the end of the show. Perhaps it was the feel good ending. Perhaps it was the cool evening air. I couldn't stop humming Moon River the rest of the night. Now, I'm spurred to watch the DVD of Capote that I've bought a few months ago, and to re-read Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Vindicated

It started with "A Guide for the Introverted Blogger". While the article is no great revelation for me on blogging, I can definitely identify with the characteristics of an introvert it mentioned. So when I saw the article "Caring for Your Introvert", it piqued my interest. I had to read it. I know it's talking about me. Well, it kind of made me feel vindicated - that I don't have to live up to an extrovert's view of the world. I'm going to have to read The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Laney from which the first article is based on. I've reserved my copy at the NLB.
